Manchester Township Receives PA DEP Growing Greener Plus Award for Stillmeadow Project

On January 12, 2023, the PA Department of Environmental Protection announced awards for 23 projects in the South Central Region through the Growing Greener Plus Program. Projects funded by this grant program include work to address watershed protection and reclamation of abandoned mine sites, oil wells, and gas wells. This year's statewide awards exceeded $19 million, and $7.8 million of this total was allocated to the South Central Region.

One of the awarded projects is over $250,000 for Manchester Township's "Stillmeadow Public-Private Collaboration for Stormwater and Stream Restoration Study." Manchester Township in York County, along with partners Stillmeadow Farms Homeowners Association and Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, have been working with the Center for Water Quality Excellence since April 2022. The project started as a request from the HOA to repair failing stormwater infrastructure, and site visits revealed the need for a larger project to manage stormwater, streambank erosion, and roadway flooding from the HOA through the adjacent church property, and into the Township's Stillmeadow Park.

CWQE helped Manchester Township prepare a grant application to PA DEP's Growing Greener Plus Program in June 2022, which included the creation of an interactive story map as supplement to the application. For more information on this local project, see the Stillmeadow Hydrology & Hydraulics Study Story Map.
