Climate Resilience: Resources for Forest Landowners

The PA DCNR Bureau of Forestry has developed Climate Change Resilience Factsheets for forest landowners, due to receiving an increasing volume of inquiries from private forest landowners and managers regarding climate change.

Forest landowners can manage their land to enhance production of wood, water, recreation, and wildlife, while also mitigating the effects of the changing climate.

The Bureau of Forestry created factsheets for each of the four major ecoregions in PA:

  • Ridge and Valley (Counties include Juniata, Northumberland, Carbon, Schuylkill, Huntingdon, Centre, Mifflin, Perry, Snyder, Union, Fulton, Bedford)
  • Western Allegheny (Counties include Westmoreland, Somerset, Fayette, Cambria, Indiana, Armstrong, Butler, Lawrence, Clarion, Venango, Jefferson, Greene, Washington, Mercer, Beaver)
  • Northern Allegheny (Counties include Warren, McKean, Potter, Clinton, Tioga, Lycoming, Bradford, Susquehanna, Wayne)
  • Piedmont (Counties include Adams, York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Montgomery)

These factsheets contain information for each region that includes a summary of observed and projected climate shifts in PA, a list of climate change related forest threats and impacts, actions landowners can take to encourage resilience to climate change in their forests, vulnerable tree species, and species expected to be climate change resilient.
